Truecaller Left Israel – Who Will Fill the Spam Call Detection Gap?
After the May 2026 Layoffs: Quick Guide to Practical Alternatives for Spam Detection and Phone Scams
TL;DR – What Happened and What to Do:
- Truecaller laid off its entire Israeli team in May 2026 – the service technically works, but without local support or updates to the Israeli spam database
- Millions of users are left without protection from phone scams and spam calls
- GetContact and Eyecon are solid alternatives – but neither reveals no-caller-ID numbers
- Traceback is the only service in Israel that reveals real no-caller-ID numbers (in partnership with all major carriers) + provides legally valid reports
What Exactly Happened with Truecaller in Israel?
In May 2026, Truecaller announced the closure of its local Israeli office and the layoff of all Israeli staff. The immediate result: while the app continues to function technically, there's no more Hebrew support and no updates to the Israeli spam database.
Users report a sharp increase in unidentified spam calls and scams. A spam database that isn't updated becomes useless within weeks. "Bank team," "Ministry of Health," and fake insurance company representative scams have already started bypassing the system.
Available Alternatives Right Now
| App | Real-time Spam Detection | No-Caller-ID Reveal | Supports All Israeli Networks | Monthly Price | |-----------|---------------------|---------------------|-------------------------|-----------|| | Truecaller | ⚠️ No longer updated | ❌ No | ⚠️ Partial | ₪16.90 | | GetContact | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ₪19.90 | | Eyecon | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ₪12.90 | | Traceback | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes – 1.3 seconds | ✅ Yes (Partner, Cellcom, Pelephone, HOT, Golan, Rami Levi, 019, 012) | ₪29.90 |
GetContact – Strong database based on community reports, convenient interface, active community. The downside: no no-caller-ID reveal. Meaning, if the scammer calls from a blocked number (which is exactly what most scams do), you can't know who it is.
Eyecon – Visual interface, relatively low price. The downside: smaller database, no no-caller-ID reveal.
Traceback – Works directly with major carriers (Partner, Cellcom, Pelephone, HOT Mobile, Golan, Rami Levi, 019, 012) and reveals the real number behind no-caller-ID calls within 1.3 seconds. Also includes legally valid reports, full documentation, and Hebrew support.
Who Actually Needs to Reveal No-Caller-ID Numbers?
This isn't a question of convenience – it's a question of personal security.
Phone scams in Israel increased by 34% in the past year, according to 2026 data from Israel Police. Most "bank team," "identity theft," and "government office representative" scams are conducted from no-caller-ID numbers. Why? Because the scammers know you can't report them or file a complaint without knowing the number.
Blocking alone isn't enough. You need to know who is trying to reach you.
Traceback provides the real number during the call or from call history within 1.3 seconds. Additionally, you receive a full report with the number, time, and complete data – valid for legal use if you need to file a complaint or contact an attorney.
What to Do Now
Remove Truecaller – If the app isn't being updated, it's just sitting on your data without value. Delete it.
Install a local alternative – Choose an app that supports all Israeli carriers. Traceback works with Partner, Cellcom, Pelephone, HOT, Golan, Rami Levi, 019, and 012 – full coverage.
Enable system-level spam blocking – Both iOS and Android allow apps to automatically block calls. Enable this option today.
If you're receiving suspicious no-caller-ID calls – reveal them – Traceback offers a free 3-day trial with monthly and annual plans. That's enough to see if the system works for you.
Bottom Line
Truecaller left. That's a fact.
If you need basic spam detection, GetContact or Eyecon will do the job. But if you want to know who's really calling you – including no-caller-ID numbers – Traceback is the only option in Israel that works with all major carriers.
